Green Lantern: Geoff Johns at Comic Convention 2010

Geoff Johns is one of the most popular and sought after comic book writer in the comic book industry today.  He has written with some of the most popular comic book companies.  Among them are DC characters Action Comics, Adventure Comics, Booster Gold, Green Lantern, Flash, Justice Society of America, Blackest Night, and Brightest Day.

SDCC 2010: DC Focus: GEOFF JOHNS LIVE!
(07/22/2010)

2:02
We're getting ready to start the Spotlight on Geoff Johns. DC Group Editor Eddie Berganza is not here so Johns is taking this on his own.
2:02
Johns is teasing surprise guests for the Green Lantern movie panel in Hall H tomorrow.
2:03
Berganza has arrived!
2:04
Johns says he's looking forward to incorporating all the comic characters we love to movies, television and toys.
2:04
The audience is now going to get a Blue Beetle test video.
2:05
Jaime Reyes was woken from his sleep and fully transformed into his costume.
2:06
Johns is opening the panel to questions from the audience now.
2:07
Johns is hinting there may be a connection between Blackest Night and the Lazarus pits. Look for answers in Brightest Day.
2:09
Johns surprised many of the audience by saying Parallax is in the GL film and now they want more.
2:11
Of criticism, Johns says he loves what he does and believes in what he does and nothing else matters. When he approaches GL, even though it looks Star Wars, it's all about emotion. It's as much about looking inward about looking outward.
2:12
Johns felt bad about the Ralph and Sue Dibney scene in Blackest Night.
2:13
You won't wait until 2011 to see Wally West says Johns.
2:14
There are lots of Aquaman fans in the room.
2:15
There will be some delving into the background of Black Manta.
2:16
A fan is concerned why Johns doesn't continue with certain books like Booster Gold, Action Comics, Adventure Comics.
2:16
He wanted to do more Superboy but had to prioritize. He says he never wants to "phone it in."
2:17
Red Lantern Dex-Starr is getting some love.
2:18
Johns says the Red Lanterns are a surrogate family and there is more to come for him.
2:18
Like he's planning a Larfleeze Christmas special, Johns says maybe there will be a Dex-Starr Valentine's Day special.
2:19
Ivan Ries is going to draw another GL Secret Origins.
2:20
Johns just announced they've started work on a Suicide Squad video game. Very violent.
2:23
Barry Allen is totally different says Johns. His morality is really interesting. This is somebody dealing with speeding and slowing down.
2:24
The Blue Beetle show is still in development but Johns says he has plans for lots more characters getting the spotlight too.
2:25
Johns says there's a lot of characters he's like to see grow more popular like Metamorpho and Katana. But he's happy with elevating the ones he has so far and that creating new characters is also a joy.
2:27
One of our smaller fans wrote a 3-page Guy Gardner Blackest Night comic and wants Johns to incorporate it into a real comic. Johns said, "Just for you, we absolutely will."
2:28
The Green Lantern movie costume has come up. Johns said it will not have nipples. He says when you see it in motion and the final actual costume, he has faith that the purists will be very happy.
2:29
Johns said he actually thinks about how to survive a zombie attack while in his apartment.
2:30
The question Hal was supposed to ask Sinestro in Rage of the Red Lanterns will finally get asked sometime this year.
2:31
As soon as he got involved into the idea of the emotional spectrum, writing Hal was easy says Johns.
2:32
The Indigo Tribe will show up in GL #59 and we'll learn more about them and see Black Hand.
2:34
Batman Earth 1 - Johns says Batman will be terrible at what he does. His gadgets don't work, his Batmobile breaks down. It's not a comedy, he's just not perfect yet. Alfred will be very, very interesting.
2:35
Johns just compared Ganthet to Yoda in terms of how much butt he can/will kick.
2:37
Johns says the one thing he doesn't like about writing is just being in a room in front of a computer. Going to a dark place to write about Black Hand was not a good time and took a lot of work on his part. He says sometimes he felt like he needed a shower afterwards.
2:38
Johns says Peter Tomasi has a great passion for Martian Manhunter and if fans want more of him after Brightest Day they should be loud about it.
2:39
There will be consequences for Mogo and all those Black Lanterns buried inside him.
2:40
Johns gives Ethan Van SciverKrib. They were originally going to use her in Iron Heights but couldn't fit her.
2:43
Cassandra Cain fans will be very happy to hear there are apparently plans for her outside of comics.
2:45
Johns has been given a print of cereal mascots as Lanterns and is now going through how they all make sense. He knows way too much about cereal.
2:48
If there comes a time when Johns has to leave GL, Berganza believes it will only be when he retires. Johns says he has never thought about leaving.
2:50
Johns says at some point you'll see a Vertigo series from him, he thinks it would be fun to do something different.
2:52
Johns says he knows something about development of a Wonder Woman movie in the months and years ahead but can't say anything other than that.
2:53
Johns says Wonder Woman is much more human than people give her credit for. He thinks people misinterpret the character and thinks she's extremely relatable.
2:55
Johns says there will be another story coming out of Brightest Day but separate in a way.
2:58
Johns says there's a lot of discussions about Shazam outside of comics.
2:59
Johns is having a hard time keeping a secret he is going to reveal this weekend.
3:00
And that's all from this panel! Stay tuned for more live coverage from San Diego Comic-Con.
