Image via WikipediaGreen Lantern is coming this June and adds to the incredible lineup of comic book movies coming out this year. I thought that Ryan Reynolds was a bit of an odd choice for Hal Jordan as although I thought he nailed Deadpool, Hal Jordan seems to be more of a strong and dramatic character rather than a comedic one. Green Lantern: Nathan Fillion Finally Wins the Green Lantern Role
Image via WikipediaDespite Fillion's similarity to the character of Hal Jordan, the actor lost out on the live-action role, but Warner Bros. has found an alternative for Fillion: voicing the character in an upcoming animated Green Lantern movie.
TVGuide reports that Fillion will voice the character in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, arriving on DVD June 7 from Warner Bros. Animation. In the movie, Hal Jordan mentors Arisia, a new recruit to the Green Lantern Corps., voiced by Elisabeth Moss (Get Him to the Greek, Mad Men).

Promotional art for director Martin Campbell's Green Lantern adaptation has been somewhat scarce. Now a whole bunch of new art for the movie has turned up in an unlikely place—the "Green Lantern Party Supplies" album of Simply Superheroes' Facebook page. Included are numerous shots of Reynolds flying through space in costume as Green Lantern, as well as a couple shots of the alien Lanterns Kilowog and Tomar-Re.

Green Lantern: Green Lantern toys debut in New York
Image via WikipediaFilm studio Warner Bros. and toy manufacturer Mattel will debut a new line of action toys based on the upcoming film Green Lantern at the American Toy Fair in New York from February 13-16.
In a joint January 25 press release Mattel and Warner Bros. announced the launch of a range of Green Lantern toys at the American Toy Fair. The range of Green Lantern Toys from Mattel includes the Green Lantern Ring Blast, Jet Figure and Vehicle, Green Lantern Battle Shifters figurines, along with play sets and associated games. Each basic action figure also comes with a Green Lantern ring for the child to wear.

Green Lantern: Next summer's box office battle
Image via WikipediaIf you asked me who would win in a fight, Marvel Comics’ Thor or DC Comics’ Green Lantern, I’d have to go with the god of thunder. A hammer versus a ring? No contest!
The “Green Lantern” trailer, however, has left me with serious doubts. Warner Brothers gave us “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight,” sure, but they also gave us the overwhelmingly underwhelming “Superman Returns.” The trailer looks like they have kept the story fairly close to its comic origins, but Ryan Reynolds doesn’t seem to be playing the role of Hal Jordan. Instead, he’s doing what he does in just about every other movie he’s in – playing himself.
This movie shouldn’t be DC’s answer to “Iron Man” – it should be its own unique property.
Another issue I have is with the special effects. While even early shots of “Thor” looked polished and ready for theaters, much of “Green Lantern” still appears unfinished even after the official release of the trailer.
The homeworld of the Green Lantern Corps looks impressive, and the supporting characters seem pretty spot-on, but in an unusually unnecessary move, the studio chose to use CGI to animate Reynolds’ costume. It’s clear in almost every scene shown that his entire body simply isn’t there; how a new body was cheaper or looked better than just donning tights I’ll never understand.

Green Lantern: Your take on Green Lantern Movie's CGI costume?
Image via WikipediaMost of Warner Bros.’ decisions, so far, have all been the right ones as they attempt to bring a second-tier DC character to the big screen – hiring Martin Campbell (Casino Royal) to direct, bringing Greg Berlanti (Dirty Sexy Money), Michael Goldenberg (Contact) and Marc Guggenheim (Eli Stone) onboard to write the screenplay, securing the musical talents of composer James Howard (The Dark Knight) and casting fanboy favorite Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) as Green Lantern himself.
However, the filmmakers’ decision to ditch the standard latex/leather/spandex combination for Green Lantern’s superhero costume in favor of a more modern, completely CG costume remains the most questionable choice they’ve made to date.
The first picture of Reynold as Green Lantern which debuted on the cover of Entertainment Weekly looked pretty good even if the “alien grooved” concept wasn’t warmly received right away – but from there it has mostly been a downhill slide. The transformation scene at the end of the first trailer (see the picture at top) was almost laughable because of the cheap looking CGI and off-putting tone of the color scheme. These latest pictures aren’t helping the situation either.
Nothing really seems to have changed in this latest round of stills – the color scheme is still off, the suit still looks too fake, the hands, arms and feet look ridiculous and then there’s the awful mask. Even if the CG animators are able to fix the colors and add more realism to the suit, if they aren’t able to make Green Lantern’s mask look like it actually belongs on Reynolds’s face then the entire suit concept is sunk.
