When I heard Ryan Reynolds was attached to play the titular role of the Green Lantern, I didn't complain. I knew he was a good actor so I had no problem with the casting choice. Last year prior to the film's release I copped Green Lantern: Secret Origins to fuel my anticipation for the film. A week before the release I see a plethora of reviews on the net filled with nothing but disappointment about the film. When I saw the film for myself I understood why.

I had high hopes for the film, very high hopes. The film could have been the new Star Wars. It could have been brilliant, but the film was plagued with thinly written dialogue from a script that elicited uncertainty and clumsiness on the big screen. What happened?! There was a good director, there was plenty of time to get the story right. Geoff Johns was attached as a consultant for the film!

Maybe there was a disunity among the people involved in the film, maybe the pressure got to everyone. We may never truly know. What we do know however is that Mark Strong was a solid choice for Sinestro and the choice of Blake Lively as Carol Ferris was equivalent to Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane in Superman Returns.

As you already know, the movie was an embarrassment to Warner Bros. It was a critical and commercial failure. The chance of seeing a Justice League movie has never seemed more unreleastic until the Green Lantern movie hit theatres. If I'm honest, the film had it's good moments but they were few. Marvel dominated the theatres with Captain America and Thor. Thor was relatively an unknown but the movie raked in 450 million in the box office. There was no excuse for the failure of 'Green Lantern'.

November last year I decided to watch the pilot for Green Lantern the Animated series. I was more frustrated. I was frustrated because the likes of Bruce Timm brought to us 'Green Lantern' on a television budget. The TV series was much better than I hoped for. It is simply awesome, colourful, funny, well written and chuck-full of brilliant voice talents. This was true entertainment. From the pilot is was obvious the show had no intention of shying away from the theme of death.

Green Lantern: Green Lantern has lowest summer debut for a superhero movie

Image via WikipediaThe knives are out for Green Lantern, but are the lights? Overall, US critics haven't enjoyed this movie, and the $53m (£33m) opening weekend won't have helped franchise prospects. It's the lowest debut of the summer so far for a superhero movie. Several years ago this would have been a decent opener but, given that the movie reportedly cost Warner Bros around $200m (£124m) to make and market, this simply wasn't good enough.

Green Lantern: Why Hal Jordan Would Make a Terrible Boyfriend

Remember when I pointed out all the qualities that would make Thor undate-able? Well, with the release of the Green Lantern movie in less than a week (June 17th), I figured I could probably give Hal Jordan the same kind of treatment. I mean, it's only fair, right? And no, it's not because I can so easily find qualities in the opposite sex deeming them undate-able; it's just that Hal Jordan is just so friggin' easy. No, I don't mean that way...even though he kind of is easy that way too...So here it is! My top four reasons why Hal Jordan (even more-so than Thor) would make a terrible boyfriend!

• He has multiple-personality disorder...sometimes.
• He's never home. Ever.
• Why should Hal settle for just one girlfriend?
• Do you really want to compete with Carol Ferris?

Green Lantern: Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern

Image via WikipediaGreen Lantern is coming this June and adds to the incredible lineup of comic book movies coming out this year. I thought that Ryan Reynolds was a bit of an odd choice for Hal Jordan as although I thought he nailed Deadpool, Hal Jordan seems to be more of a strong and dramatic character rather than a comedic one. The trailers I've seen have a bit more comedy than I might like for Green Lantern, but I am intrigued nonetheless.

Green Lantern: 'Green Lantern' Star Blake Lively Finds Strength In Carol Ferris

When "Green Lantern" hits theaters next summer, don't hold your breath waiting for a damsel in distress to appear on the big screen. According to actress Blake Lively, her character of Carol Ferris is much more of a proactive heroine than the common superhero female lead.

"Playing women with strengths are the characters I'm most attracted to," Lively told MTV News while promoting her work in "The Town," director Ben Affleck's latest Boston-set crime thriller. "Being in a superhero movie opposite such amazing actors and an incredible director, and not just being a damsel in distress but a fighter pilot and [Hal's] boss at the company."

Indeed, Carol Ferris has quite a lot of strengths, including a capacity for great evil as the villainous Star Sapphire. But don't expect Lively to transform from Hal's love interest to his nemesis overnight.

"There are always winks and homages to certain things in the comics for the fans, but I don't think you'll know yet how evil she turns," she said. "Not yet."

Green Lantern: Blake Lively Calls Her Early Acting Performances 'Terrible'

You'd think that as the star of a hit television show, Blake Lively would crave the spotlight just as much as any Tinseltown darling. But you'd be wrong. In fact, according to the October issue of Allure , the "Gossip Girl" actress is "The Anti- Starlet."

Blake insists she doesn't want to be famous. "Yeah, I don't comment on my relationships, so you can skin that one," she said. "My anonymity is something I treasure. Wanting to be an actor and wanting to be famous are different." Well, she is certainly heading in the direction of respected actress with Friday's release of "The Town." She stars opposite Ben Affleck, in a small but pivotal role. "This part was originally supposed to be for a 37-year-old woman—she’s a mother—but when I read the script, I knew I had to have the part," Blake said. "It was selfish of me. I worried I would ruin it for other people. But I had to try it."

And try she did. But in the beginning, she was insecure about her acting abilities. "You make your mistakes on a bigger screen for everyone to see," she said. "I’d look at what we shot on a day and it was like, 'Oh, gosh, I'm terrible.'" Blake's had years to hone her craft, and casting directors are taking notice. The 23-year-old will next star in the highly-anticipated "Green Lantern alongside Ryan Reynolds and Peter Sarsgaard.
